Interview with Noper

As you have seen the earlier post featuring Radu Pop and his "grimly" work, we now have the chance to find out about the man and his art.

Please give us a brief description: where you are from and how you started in this field?

I'm 27. From Bucharest, Romania. I finished art school two years ago.
I work in advertising as an art director for about 6 years now.
Noper has become in time, my creative alternative to the shitty
corporate environment I work in.

What are your favored styles to design?

I really enjoy vintage. I often try to emulate the coloring style and
the feeling of the 40's or the 50's
in some of my drawings.

What is your approach to design?
In the moment of creation I try not to care about what the client or
the world wold think of my design.
I just do it... after that

Any influences or anyone you look up to when it comes to designing?
I'm a big fan of Banksy. I love his way of thinking and doing things.

Share with us the process behind creating some of the amazing stuff you have done?
I begin by setting up a theme then with that in mind I just begin
drawing and drawing. Sometimes the theme changes on the way
influenced by my daily experiences or by my thoughts or feelings at
that time, but it always gets back at the end. So the process is very
fluid, resulting in some interesting pieces.

What inspires you to go and how do you keep yourself motivated?
I get inspired a lot by visual blogs like ffffound, where i get only
the visual part of the information.
My environment motivates me. The things that are wrong in it feeds my
anger at the world which feeds my creativity as an illustrator.

How will you describe your style?
Ahhh...I think is "teethy". As all my characters in my world have their
teeth outside grinning at the world.

What are some of your most memorable projects?
My most memorable project was a series of animations I had to do for a
local chain of casinos. I had so little time to do it but I managed to
do wonders in that amount of time and the client loved the result. You
can see some of the animations here:
Astro Jack 1
Astro Jack 2
Astro Jack 3

If there was one country or city in the world design scene which everyone should have an eye on, which would it be, and why?
I would say Brazil, I found a lot of super talented artist coming
from that area on the internet lately. The are really coming!

Share with us the kind of music you listen to?
I like chilled jazzy music. Especially when I work. I don't like
silence but neither to be disturbed by complex lyrics or sounds.
So I really dig tracks from Saint Germain, Boozou Bajou, Air or Skalpel.

What other interests you have besides designing?
I have a dog called Dexter which I love to play with in the park. I'm
interested in disconnecting from the computer.
My whole corporate life gravitates around it so I try to disconnect as
often as I can. i' m also interested in comic books.
I have a large collection of graphic novels.

Words of advice for aspiring designers/artists?
Not to care about what would the world say about what you do. Just do
stuff your own way.
For example.. You don't know how to draw a rabbit? Draw it in your own
way your own style. It may be the most creative way to do it.
Lastly, Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I don't know. On my own. Still drawing. Maybe more of an animator than
today.

Lots of big tasty projects:) Keeping it cool.
